Chinese people like to decorate their houses with exquisite flowers to add color to the Chinese new year. And as the Spring Festival of the year of the dragon approaches, the flower markets in some southern and eastern provinces of China are in full bloom.
Florists have offered a variety of exquisite flowers for those customers who are eager to decorate their houses to embrace the coming of Chinese New Year on January 23rd. Flowers with auspicious meanings have been especially sought after.
In Nanning, the capital city of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, lucky bamboos, crape myrtles and daffodils, which mean prosperity, victory and auspiciousness, are very popular.

Five-fingered eggplants with their auspicious golden-colored fruits are also one of the favorites in the market.
A florist said, "This is called the five-fingered eggplants and we only sell them during the Spring Festival."
He also added that the plant is in high demand for the festival's floral arrangements.
Irises, Chinese cymbidiums and winter sweets are very popular in Kunshan city of east China's Jiangsu Province. But shoppers will notice that the prices have gone up, especially the winter sweets. Before the festive period, a winter sweet sold for around 100 yuan, but now the price has reached to over 300 yuan, or about 48 US dollars.

A florist said, "These plants should be carefully taken care of. You should keep them inside the house, and water them every two days."
Winter daphne, normally seen as a very plain plant, has also found its way into the market at high prices as flower growers in Dayu County of east China's Jiangxi Province have arranged them into eye-catching shapes to attract buyers.
